V2018 - single line command bar option makes command freeze
« on: December 17, 2017, 01:42:20 AM »
I use the "single line command bar" option.
When using it, it freezes the command.
I get out of the freeze with an escape but then i am also out of the command.

Does it happen with all commands?

It did.
But, and this is strange, it works fine now.
I reinstalled DC.
But that did not change anything.
Work a while without the single line command bar.
Tried it again to see if it happened with all the commands.
But it works fine now.
Don't know what did it. ???

In the past some keyboard commands would stop working after a few hours of drawing if the computer was running out of free memory. Restarting the program would get everything working again.

How much RAM do you have in your machine? Are you working on a very large drawing? Are you running other programs in the background? How much free RAM do you have when running DesignCAD?

You may run into this problem specifically with the Text commands in Single Line Command Bar mode -- we forgot to include a new control in the bar version of the Text dialog. Also the Curve command has a new control that can cause the program to crash in Single Line Command bar mode.

It still happens.
It seems random.
But it happens when i use a shortcut 't' to type 2D text!!!!!
I use DC in 2D most of the time.

Thanks for the reactions
.
Looking forward for the update.
It ain't the RAM. I 've got 16GB and never seen it get beyond 8 GB use, even with large drawings.
I notice DC is faster. I like that cause I use maps of a whole town with 300000 entities.

Thought i would try to open a bigger file (300MB last saved in v25)
This is very slow opening the file and as of 73% it starts flashing every 10 seconds.
As if another program opens and closes again.
It stays at 73% but the file keeps growing till.
Finally opens (1019,4 MB in RAM, 1100000 entities, 8 milion points). In fact this file is the half of the city's entities.
Also slaw in v2018.  :-\

Mercator,

On my Win 7 Pro 64 machine I have experimented with maximum file size in DesignCAD x64.

The machine has 32 gigabytes of RAM.

The largest file I have created and successfully edited is about 730 megabytes. Any larger than that and the program becomes flaky - nits and pieces of the drawing disappear. However Windows Resource Monitor reports about 25 Mbytes of RAM unused and available.

This is pretty disappointing. I want to combine several 250-350 Mbyte files to create one that should be about 1 Gbyte in size. With 64 bit variables and addresses file size shouldn't be a problem, but apparently either DesignCAD or Windows (or both) does not handle large files correctly.

Thought I would pass this along for reference. I have edited quite a few files in the 250-350 Mbyte size, and at least one 415 Mbyte file.
