assignment to replace a=val(b$)
« on: August 31, 2017, 08:00:15 PM »
In discussing of the val() command, the most recent version of the SDK says that  a$=b is a proper assignment, but I can find no reference to a=b$.

I've used a=b$ seemingly without problems.
Is it safe, or should a=val(b$) be used instead?

I'd suggest using val(b$), since the meaning (at least to me) is clearer. Converting a number to a string is an obvious conversion. Converting a string to a number is a bit more tenuous, such as when b$ is something like "!@&ghohalQSG".
