Menu text size too small
« on: March 04, 2017, 08:51:41 AM »
Sorry if this has been covered before but couldn't find it with a search.
The Menu text and icons of DC V25 on my new laptop are impossibly small, can they be made bigger?

The easiest way to fix this, which affects all your programs, is to use your desktop (right-click on it) display settings and try maybe 125% or 150% for "size of text, apps, and other items.

You may or may not (depending on windows version) be able to set menu text separately from other items, as this is controlled by windows.

Within Designcad there is a checkbox in the (Options, View tab) to use "large icons" but this ONLY enlarges the icons.

I believe the next DCAD version will have more flexible options to adjust icon size, but not for the menu text.

Thanks for the reply.
I already have Large Icons checked so I guess it is down to what Windows 10 can offer.

I tried enlarging the text in Win10 but it didn't help.
The Toolbox icons are just too small and I will have to use the Magnifier to identify them!
In addition to that some of the text in lists are not displayed with sufficient line spacing, as per the screenshot in my first post.

This may be just a wild guess, but see if your video card is up to date. I have never seen any thing as  you show.

Up to now, DesignCAD has been designed more to keep users of older equipment "in the loop" than those with the latest and greatest hardware. So while it'll still be useable at 800x600, at the new high-def resolutions it is a bit dated.

If you set Windows 10's display of text and icons to 100%, log back out and back in, then increase the display sizing to 125 or 150%, *until* you log back out and back in, DesignCAD's icons and text will be larger; however once you log out and back in it no longer recognizes those settings.

The next version (DesignCAD 2017) will offer more user control over the size of icons and text.

Sorry for the delay in replying, for some reason I am not getting email notifications.
I tried the windows options and didn't like the look and feel of the display, guess I will have to wait for release 2017.

A short update.
I had the same problem with Excel and so investigated further.
The problem is down to screen scaling. The recommended (Win10) scale for my laptop is 250%. If I reduce it to 200% Excel lines separate and can be read, it needs to go to 150% for the DesignCad line compression to become readable.
Unfortunately neither program is usable at those scales as everything on the screen reduces to the unreadable!

Until the new version comes out, you could try setting your screen resolution to something more like1920 x 1080, and run at 100%

I see DC 3D 2016 is now out. Will that give me better scaling?

Thanks

2016 (or V26 same thing) has been out for quite some time already - about August 2016

The scaling improvements are apparently due to arrive in the 2017 version
