Version 21 startup problem
« on: May 11, 2011, 01:07:34 PM »
I downloaded and installed version 21.  DCAD 21 doesn't start after I enter the activation code, which I've done five times.  I get messages saying Activation Successful and DesignCAD is now fully activated.  I've rebooted twice.  Still no luck.

Version 20 still runs fine.

Thanks.

Have you looked in the installation folder for the "Dcad21.exe" file? If it is there start it and see if the program runs now without asking for activation.

Are you logged in as an administrator?

Which folder did you install into?

The program files are in the DesignCAD 21 folder in the program files folder.  See the attachment.

I'm the administrator on this pc.

Never had this problem before.

That is indeed odd.

Did you by chance use the option to install "for me only"?  If so, try to uninstall, and re-install to some other folder NOT in program files.  Sometimes Designcad wants to write to its program folder, and Vista won't allow it.

When re-installing, try turning off your anti-virus, sometimes (rarely) that screws things up

If that doesn't help, I think I'm out of ideas...

Turned off the anti-virus, installed to C:\DesignCAD 3D Max 21, all users.  Same response.  Still doesn't work.

Do you get a splash screen, or some kind of error message?
Does DesignCAD appear in the process list of the Task Manager?
Will DesignCAD start if you boot into Safe Mode?

Here's another issue that may be causing your problem.

DEP [data execution prevention] settings........found within the system properties.  I can't offer you any further advice on setting it since I reverted back to XP after a few months of horror with Vista.....and, if I remember correctly, most of my software refused to start until it was included in the DEP settings and turned OFF!

Just another thing to try..........I can imagine you are anxious to get this sorted out.

No splash screen, no error messages; that's why I'm so puzzled.

It doesn't show up in the Task Manager after I enter the activation code.

Does it ask you for an activation code each time you try to start DesignCAD?

Yes, it asks for the activation code each time I start DCAD 21.

Thanks, that specific bit of information up front could have avoided some speculation.

Please try booting Windows into Safe Mode, with an administrator account. Start and activate DesignCAD in Safe Mode. After activation, start it again to be sure it starts properly. If it does, reboot normally, and see if things are now working properly.

MS Vista does it to us again, long live Vista  >:(

So, for some unknown reason, the registry is refusing to accept the new information, right?
