3D mouse for designcad ?
« on: December 30, 2009, 04:22:56 AM »
My question is : when will IMSI develop drivers 3D-mouse for DesignCAD ?
They have done it for TurboCAD and other products = why not for Designcad ?

From my point of view, this could bring more benefit for the use of DesignCAD, in terms of speed, productivity, ease of use, etc ...
Indeed, 3D-mouse could drive the scroll bars in 2D, and zoom tools, and for 3D, 3D-mouse could drive the view toolbox functions (Set View, etc...) ... and of course do more (other buttons for shortcut, etc ...).

Almost all other CAD programs have foreseen the possibility of using a 3D-mouse, and developed the drivers for !

JJG, have you looked at http://forum.designcadcommunity.com/index.php?topic=2732.0? DesignCAD provide for:

mouse scroll wheel -- scroll up/down
SHIFT + mouse scroll wheel -- scroll left/right
CTRL + mouse scroll wheel -- zoom in/out
mouse scroll wheel click -- to reposition the whole drawing within a window with two clicks

The driver that comes with a 3D mouse has often program capabilities to when buttons can be mapped to output codes. Those code could commands that are recognized by DesignCAD.

Dempsey,

we also talked about this in the both other subjects :
http://forum.designcadcommunity.com/index.php?topic=1253.msg14453#new   and    http://forum.designcadcommunity.com/index.php?topic=2633.0
The problem is to have some code (macro or other) to do that (scroll up/down, scroll left/right, zoom in/out, etc...).

Right now the horizontal scroll bar slider position, vertical scroll bar slider position, and zoom factor, are not available as SYS() functions. And that is what Feature Request F1-46 is all about. Once we have the SYS() functions any kind of macro(s) can be written to manipulate those values.

BTW, with the above mentioned standard mouse wheel functions I personally have little or no use for these macros. The scroll and zoom sensitivity can be control via options:
  • Options -> Cursor --> Cursor step
  • Options -> General --> Zoom increment

OK, thank's !

Today I received an email advertising for Turbocad (which I never have use until now...), and presenting new features, such as the compatibility for anonther new 3D mouse :  http://www.sandiotech.com./

As what the issue is not trivial in the world of CAD ... !!!   ;)
